Launch of consultations on UNCRC General Comment on Child Rights & the Environment!

Today, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child launched a round of consultations with children and young people and the global community to share their views on the first draft of General Comment No. 26 on child rights and the environment, with a special focus on climate change.

The Children's Advisory Team has developed a Child-Friendly Version of the General Comment No. 26 draft and the Save our planet, Save our future toolkit to support children's participation. The toolkit is a step-by-step guide for children, young people and adult allies to host workshops with children, especially from marginalized communities, so that they can learn about their rights and participate in the second consultation.

The consultation is available in English, French and Spanish and the Save our planet, Save our future toolkit and the children's consultation submission form will be translated into other languages in the coming days by Climate Cardinals- an international youth-led nonprofit working to make the climate movement more accessible to those who don’t speak English. Project Dryad was part of the General Comment’s core drafting team of two, which submitted the draft to the Committee during the Summer. The consultations on the Committee’s first draft will provide critical feedback on areas to be improved for the final General Comment - anticipated to be launched in May 2023.
